TEHRAN, May 9 (ICANA) – A five-member delegation of Iranian parliamentarians have arrived in Santiago to discuss expansion of ties and cooperation in meetings with senior Chilean officials.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation, comprising members of Iran-Chile parliamentary friendship group, left Tehran for the Latin American state on Saturday.

During the five-day visit which takes place at the invitation of the Chilean officials, the Iranian delegation presided by head of the Iran-Chile parliamentary friendship group Hossein Amiri will discuss expansion of bilateral relations and exchange views about regional and international developments with Santiago officials.

The delegation is also due to visit Chile's cultural sites and centers during the trip to the Latin American country.

Earlier on Saturday, President of Chile's Chamber of Deputies Patricio Melero voiced his country's willingness to expand ties with Iran, specially in parliamentary fields.

Speaking to Tehran's Ambassador to Santiago Houshang Karimi Abhari, Melero hoped for further engagement between the Iranian and Chilean parliaments.

Pointing to the visit of the Iranian parliamentary friendship group to Chile, he expressed the hope the trip would help Iran and Chile have better insight about each other.

In November, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera had called for the further expansion of ties with Iran in all fields, specially in economic and cultural affairs.

Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields.

Since taking office in 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran's cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Bolivia
