Speaking to FNA, Rapporteur of the parliament's Economic Commission Seyed Ali Mousavi said that the move would be a reaction to the Saudi regime's growing crimes in Bahrain and the regime's arrogant confrontation against the Islamic awakening in Arab World.

"A major way to strike at the interests of Saudi Arabia is imposing sanctions on imports of Saudi goods," the lawmaker stated, expressing the hope that the Iranian parliament and government would take the necessary measures in this regard.

"The government should allow imports of goods from those countries that support our country's cultural, social, political and economic interests," Mousavi reiterated.

Iran has repeatedly underlined support for people's legitimate demands in Bahrain. Demonstrators in Bahrain have been demanding constitutional reforms as well as an end to the 230-year-old monarchy.

Yet, tension has grown high after the Saudi military intervention in Bahrain. Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's fifth fleet, is viewed as a very sensitive and determining factor in the power equations of the region.

To help the Bahraini government crush the anti-government protests, Saudi Arabia has deployed over 1,000 troops in the country.
