MP: Iran's EU Package Favors Global Peace

“The political package proposed to the European Union by the Islamic Republic of Iran addresses all issues of interest in line with sustaining a logical and fair course of negotiations,” IRNA quoted Alaeddin Boroujerdi as saying late on Wednesday.

He was referring to a letter sent by Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili to the EU's Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton on Tuesday, in which he welcomed talks with the P5+1 based on common grounds and in a pressure-free atmosphere.

The P5+1 comprises of Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany.

The Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission told reporters in the Western province of Lorestan that all the issues included in the proposal favors peace in the Middle East and across the globe.

“Based on this and given the talks between the secretary of our country's Supreme National Security Council [Jalili] and the remarks made by Mrs. Ashton as the representative of the European Union and the P5+1 member states, if the Western sides agree to the Islamic Republic's proposed package for negotiations, that will make a notable contribution to resolving international and regional issues,” he stated.

Referring to the recent developments in North Africa and the Middle East, Boroujerdi said the package in question provides an analysis on the roots of the unrests in the region's Arab states and further highlights Iran's readiness to cooperate with the international community to fight terrorism and drug trafficking.

The Iranian lawmaker further reiterated Tehran's support for popular uprisings in the region as an “undeniable fact,” and further stated that they were initiated based on the model of Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Boroujerdi also pointed out that Iran's foreign policy is based on avoiding any interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
