Argentina: Families of Concert Fire Victims Demand Justice

During a concert, fire broke out, killing many. This is because the emergency door had been closed. Seven years later, the victims' families still want an answer from the authorities.

The protesters gathered in front of the Congress to support the National Commission Against Insecurity and Impunity. The son of commission's president Ruben Carballo, was killed by the police in another concert last year. This seventeen year old kid died after being beaten by police.

According to the Office Against Police and Institutional Repression, some 3000 people have died while in police custody since 1983. In 2009, the security forces of Argentina killed at list 250 people.

To win back public trust, the government has already dismissed 36 police commissioners and says it will take further measures to ensure incidents as such never happen again.

At the end of the rally, the protesters sent a petition to the parliament, urging the officials to set up a commission to investigate the allegations of police abuse and brutality.

Pain has not stopped the families who lost their loved ones in Argentina; far from that, they accompany each other in their suffering. In their search for justice, they vow to continue in their struggle against what they call impunity, police brutality and corruption, until political authorities heed their demands.
