MP: Iran Backs Syria since Damascus Supports Resistance

“Syria is providing great assistance to resistance, therefore the position that we have taken (toward Syria) is very natural,” stated Boroujerdi, who is the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman.

Syrian Information Minister Adnan Hassan Mahmoud says a national dialogue will be held following two months of protests in the Middle Eastern country.

The government is currently implementing a comprehensive program “in the interest of the people,” and the national dialogue will start in the coming days, Adnan told a press conference in the capital Damascus on Friday.

The Syrian minister pointed out that in the light of the situation, the country's army, police and security forces have been sent to pursue armed groups which have been killing citizens, terrorizing people, burning public and private properties, halting social and economic life, threatening schools and public security, and challenging the state authority.

He added that several members of the armed groups have been arrested and large quantities of weapons, including improvised explosive devices, have been seized from them, the Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA, quoted Adnan as saying.

The armed groups were planning to further terrorize citizens, and target bridges, oil pipelines, railways and other places, the agency said.

The announcement came after a prominent Syrian opposition activist held talks with one of President Bashar al-Assad's advisors.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army has begun pulling out troops from the coastal city of Banias as stability has been restored. Also the army units are completing their withdrawal from in the southern city of Daraa. Soldiers were deployed there last week.

Demonstrations continued across Syria on Friday, when three protesters were killed in the cities of Homs and Damascus.

Rights groups say hundreds have been killed in demonstrations during the past two months in Syria. The government blames the violence on armed gangs.
