Tokyo Urged to Change Policy on US Military Base

Now, that opinion has received support from three top members of the US Senate Armed Services Committee.

The statement of the US senators strikes at the heart of the so-called US-Japan Agreement of May 28, 2010, which the Democratic Party of Japan-led government in Tokyo was pressured by Washington into signing just one year ago.

Fierce local opposition in Okinawa, however, has so far prevented the agreement from being implemented.

Many observers have been questioning the wisdom of the Japanese government position all along.

So Press TV took this question to Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto-does Tokyo really intend to defy public opinion in Okinawa?

Analysts remain divided on just how sincere that commitment really is.

So the Japanese government policy still hasn't changed, but we may be detecting a little bit of a wobble.
