“She was released on Tuesday,” Dolatabadi told reporters on Wednesday.

“This person had travelled to Syria and Syrian officials found something wrong with her passport, and she was deported to Iran because she holds Iranian and Canadian citizenship,” he explained.

He added, “The investigation revealed that nothing was wrong with her passport, so the order of her release was issued.”

Al Jazeera reported on May 11 that Parvaz has been deported from Syria to Iran.

In a statement issued on May 10, the Syrian embassy in Washington D.C. said that Parvaz had attempted to enter Syria illegally on an expired Iranian passport and subsequently been extradited to Iran, Al Jazeera reported.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday said that the Al Jazeera reporter committed several violations because she attempted to enter Syria with an expired Iranian passport, planned to work without a press permit, and had several passports on her.
