Ruling ANC Wins S Africa Elections

They show a resounding response with 57% of South Africa's 23million registered voters turning up at the polls.

The results show the ruling African National Congress maintaining an overall tally of 62%, while the opposition garnered 24% of the ballots.

The ruling party maintains control in all provinces except for the Western Cape, where the houses of parliament are based. In this province, the Democratic Alliance has consolidated its position winning an outright majority.

The ANC says the results show it remains the people's party, but the DA has shown a growth in all provinces, raising concerns among some, especially considering the party has its roots in the apartheid era.

And these scenes underscore the nightmare analysts are referring to... Here the DA has sent its law enforcement forces to evict people who staged a sit-in on a piece of public land.

The election results are largely viewed as an indicator of President Zuma's style of management. But analysts say the ANC's ability to hold its grip on power means it now has a greater responsibility to deliver.
