China Urges Key Talks with Iran

In a Monday meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in the Chinese capital, Beijing, Yang said that dialogue between the two Asian countries would lead to common understanding and help the sides to reach important achievements.

He added that China's foreign policy attaches special significance to the expansion of relations with Iran in all fields and expressed hope that Tehran and Beijing would take major strides towards promoting all-out ties.

The Iranian foreign minister, who is currently on an official visit to Beijing, said Iran and China are important and influential countries in West and East Asia which could play a complementary role to improve political and economic cooperation.

“As an independent country which enjoys rich energy resources, the Islamic Republic of Iran can be a trustworthy partner for China,” Salehi said.

The Iranian minister arrived in the Chinese capital on Sunday on a two-day visit to hold talks with senior officials of the country and meet with researchers and intellectuals.

Upon his arrival in Beijing International Airport, Salehi said Iran and China can support each other in economic and political spheres and called on both countries to increase the level of interactions.

The top Iranian diplomat pointed out that China is an emerging economic power and put the volume of bilateral trade transactions between the two countries at $30 billion a year.
