Salehi Stresses Tehran's Resolve to Consolidate Ties with Malaysia

TEHRAN, May 28 (ICANA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi underlined that Tehran will use all its potentials to expand its cooperation with Malaysia.

"Iran has always been one of Malaysia's reliable trade partners and will use all its potentials to expand cooperation," Salehi said.

The issue was raised during a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on the sidelines of the16th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Bali, Indonesia on Thursday.

Salehi hailed the current level of bilateral ties between the two countries but stressed that "the two sides should increase cooperation potentials through increased efforts".

"Malaysia can realize its potential in the region to become the gateway to East Asia," the Iranian minister reiterated.

The Malaysian foreign minister, for his part, hailed the two countries' brotherly ties and expressed Kuala Lumpur's willingness to enhance all out ties with the Islamic Republic.

The 16th ministerial meeting of the 118-member movement opened in Bali on Wednesday to discuss leading global issues, including human rights, climate change, pandemics, food security and development.

The meeting will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of NAM in Belgrade in former Yugoslavia.
