Cameron Drops Patronage of Israeli 'Racist' Global Fund-Raiser

The Stop the JNF Campaigned reported on Friday that Cameron had “quietly terminated his status as an Honorary Patron of the controversial Jewish National Fund (JNF) after his office confirmed he had “stepped down”.

By convention, the leaders of all three of the UK's main parties for a long time have been adopted as honorary patrons of the charity, despite its involvement in planting trees and forests over ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages to try to erase any proof these villages ever existed, IRNA reported.

But according to Stop the JNF spokesman, Dick Pitt, Cameron was the only party leader to have retained his patronage of the quasi-Israeli government global fund-raiser since 2006 when he became the Conservative leader.

'This decline in political support for the JNF at the highest levels of the political tree may be a sign of the increasing awareness in official quarters that a robust defence of the activities of the JNF may not be sustainable,” Pitt said.

Stop the JNF Campaign was launched in March this year by the Palestinian Boycott National Committee, the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAZN), Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign and others to inform the public about the JNF

The UK coordinator of IJAZN Michael Kalmanovitz said Cameron’s patronage “lent parliamentary credibility to a criminal organisation backed by a highly-equipped occupying army and masquerading as a ‘humanitarian charity’.”

“Now parliamentarians who are ‘Friends of Israel’ must consider how much longer they can defend Israeli apartheid and worse,“ Kalmanovitz said about the groups that act as a Zionist lobby both inside parliament and at party roots.

Pressure mounted on Cameron with the issuing of a parliamentary Early Day Motion two months ago that expressed regret about his patronage and also said “there is just cause to consider revocation of the JNF's charitable status in the UK”.

“The JNF's constitution is explicitly discriminatory by stating that land and property will never be rented, leased or sold to non-Jews,” said the EDM raised by Labour backbench MP Jeremy Corbyn.

It further noted that the UN rejected the JNF USA's application for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council in 2007 on the ground that it “violates the principles of the UN Charter on Human Rights.”
