Deviators Plan to Engineer Iran Polls: Commander

“This current seeks to rally support through renting and [using] money, in an attempt to achieve its goals and engineer the next elections,” Mohammad-Ali Jafari said at a Saturday meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The senior commander said certain cultural and political views among some associates of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have worried Iranian officials, IRNA reported.

“However, the prudent management of the Leader of the [Islamic] Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] prevented the issue from becoming the country's main concern,” Jafari pointed out.

Iran is set to hold its next parliamentary elections around March 2012.
