Mubarak Loyalists Arrested Iran Diplomat

On Sunday, an Iranian diplomat was arrested in the Egyptian capital of Cairo but was released after two hours in custody when the allegations proved unfounded.

Egyptian media including Al-Ahram newspaper, which supported Egypt's former ruler Hosni Mubarak until the last days of revolution, claimed that the diplomat had spying equipment in his possession.

The arrest of the Iranian diplomat was made while the officials of Egypt's transitional government, especially Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi, have stressed the good relations between Iran and Egypt during the past two months.

Earlier in April, the Egyptian foreign minister called for the normalization of ties with Iran, saying Cairo is committed to seeking to improve its long-frozen relations with Tehran.

Nevertheless, the CIA office in Cairo planned the arrest, release of the news and following the media hype in cooperation with a number of Suleiman's team in Egypt's intelligence and security organization, Raja News reported.

Reports say despite news about Suleiman's trip to Washington, he is currently in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and is suffering from mental instability.

New chief of Egypt's security system General Murad Mohamed Mowafi has anti-Israeli orientations but a major part of the country's security apparatus still comprises of Suleiman's men who are loyal to Mubarak.
