Although the content of the letter was not publicized, media speculations said that the message touched upon the two countries' cooperation in connection with the popular uprisings and the critical conditions prevailing the region.

At the meeting, Qatari Parliament Speaker Muhammad bin-Mubarak al-Khalifi voiced Doha's support for people's peaceful uprisings in the regional states, and said, "Since the very beginning of peaceful popular protests in Tunisia, the Qatari government has always emphasized its full support for the will and choice of the people in that country and other Arab states."

Al-Khalifi further noted the ongoing consultations among Arab and Muslim parliament speakers for holding emergency and extraordinary meetings to discuss the regional conditions, and said holding such gatherings would help display unity among Muslim states and nations.

"And we welcome arrangement of such meetings and summits, with the attendance of all Islamic and Arab countries, to support the interests of the Muslim world, with the Palestinian issue standing atop such interests," he added.

Elsewhere, the Qatari parliament speaker praised the good ties between Tehran and Doha, and underlined that his Emir is insistent on the expansion of relations and the necessity of continued consultations with Iran, specially between the two parliament speakers, on issues and problems of the world of Islam.

In one of such meetings held last July to discuss Muslim issues the Iranian and Qatari Parliament Speakers discussed the issues of Palestine, the siege of Gaza in particular, in a meeting on the sidelines of the emergency meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) in Damascus.

During his meeting, Larijani proposed, that the Islamic countries can launch joint assistance aides' caravans for Gaza residents.

"Forwarding aides' caravans has a long term effect that is breaking the lingering siege of Gaza," he emphasized.

"That is the practical step that the Islamic countries can take to break that inhumane siege of Gaza," Larijani said.

Qatar's parliament speaker, too, said in the meeting, "The important point is the seriousness of the countries in forwarding aides for the people of Gaza and some countries, such as Egypt must clarify their stands regarding Gaza and play positive roles."
