Qatar Supported Popular Uprisings in Region: Speaker

Bin-Mubarak made the remarks on Monday in a meeting with Iranian ambassador to Doha, Abdollah Sohrabi, during which Sohrabi submitted the message of Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to Bin-Mubarak.

“The Qatari government, since the beginning of the peaceful popular protests in Tunisia, has expressed its support for the demands of the people of this country and other Arab states,” Bin-Mubarak stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Qatari official expressed satisfaction with Tehran-Doha relations and called for further expansion of ties particularly the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

He also congratulated Larijani on his reelection as the speaker of Iran’s Parliament.

Sohrabi, for his part, said Iran has also supported popular uprisings in certain regional nations, saying Tehran believes the legitimate demands of these states should be met peacefully.

He also rejected claims made by some Western countries that Iran interferes in the internal affairs of these countries, and reiterated Tehran has never interfered and will never interfere in the internal affairs of other states.
