Boroujerdi made the remarks during a speech at the fifth International Imam Khomeini and Foreign Policy Conference, which was held at the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) in Tehran on Wednesday.

The conference was held four days ahead of the 22nd death anniversary of Imam Khomeini.

A 45-member Egyptian delegation, a number of foreign diplomats based in Tehran, and the participants of an international conference entitled Islamic Awakening: Development in Geo-politics and Culture of the Middle East, which was held in Tehran on Tuesday, attended the conference.

Three expert panels were also held on the sidelines of the conference.

In his address at the conference, Boroujerdi said the principles that Imam Khomeini laid down are bearing fruit in the countries that are experiencing pro-democracy uprisings.

Imam Khomeini’s foreign policy was to raise Muslim nations’ self-esteem and invite them to revive their Islamic identity, added Boroujerdi, who is the Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee chairman.

The late Imam also invited the leaders of Muslim countries to follow the “divine path,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi expressed satisfaction with the reconciliation deal between the Palestinian movements of Fatah and Hamas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi also sent a message to the participants of the conference which was read out at the gathering.

In his message, Salehi paid tribute to Imam Khomeini and expressed hope that the conference would pave the way for further cooperation between Iran and other countries.
