Salehi Hails Manama's Decision to End State of Emergency

Salehi said it is a positive measure and a step toward taking into consideration people's demands, emphasizing the importance of Bahrain's independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We think Bahrain’s problems are its domestic issues which should be settled through a ‘Bahraini-Bahraini approach’ and withdrawal of foreign troops from that country,” he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Bahraini government lifted the three-month state of emergency that was imposed in March as anti-government protests escalated in the Persian Gulf country.

Scores of people have been killed and many more have been arrested in the Saudi-backed crackdown on peaceful protests in Bahrain since the anti-government demonstrations began in mid-February.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait deployed their troops to Bahrain to reinforce a massive armed crackdown on the popular uprising.
