NAM Backs Iran Nuclear Program Again

The Non-Aligned Movement has reiterated support for Tehran in a “statement endorsed by NAM ambassadors in favor of the Islamic Republic of Iran's peaceful nuclear program,” IRNA quoted Soltanieh as saying at the end of a meeting of NAM ambassadors in Vienna, Austria, on Friday.

The Iranian envoy further pointed out that the statement by the 118-member organization “will be read out by the Egyptian ambassador representing the NAM countries at the seasonal meeting of the IAEA's Board of Governors next week.”

NAM has repeatedly backed Iran's peaceful nuclear activities challenged by the West that has accused Iran of intending to develop a military nuclear program.

The US and its allies have used the accusation as a pretext to pressure the UN Security Council into imposing rounds of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iranian officials have fiercely refuted such allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, Tehran has the right to pursue and utilize peaceful nuclear technology.
