The Iranian Embassy in Armenia announced the president's official visit on Sunday.

“Dr. Ahmadinejad's official visit to Armenia is in line with developing and deepening of relations between the two countries and in response to a trip to Iran by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan,” read the announcement a copy of which was obtained by IRNA.

“During the day-long trip, Dr. Ahmadinejad will not only sit down for talks with the Armenian president but will also meet some of the country's officials,” the announcement further reads.

During the visit, the two sides are to sign Memoranda of Understanding on mutual economic cooperation.

President Ahmadinejad previously paid a state visit to Armenia in 2007 and held talks with top officials of the country. During the visit, the two sides signed four Memoranda of Understanding and issued a joint communique on the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

Iran and Armenia have taken major strides towards promoting mutual relations in the past few years.
