Indonesia Keen to Expand Trade with Iran

Suryo Sulistyo made the remarks on the sidelines of the Indonesia-Iran Business Forum in Jakarta, adding that holding joint meetings between the two countries’ businessmen is one of the essential ways to develop commercial relations.

Referring to some one billion dollars worth of bilateral trade between Iran and Indonesia, he expressed the hope that by using huge potentials of both countries in oil, gas and agricultural sectors, bilateral trade would increase considerably in coming years.

Indonesian and Iranian businessmen believe economic cooperation between the two countries will continue to increase despite UN economic sanctions on Iran over its nuclear power development program, he further said.

According to statistics, the two-way trade in 2010 reached 1.2 billion dollars. Indonesia’s value of exports to Iran reached 639.37 million dollars, while its imports from Iran reached 590.40 million dollars. Officials of the two countries hope the bilateral trade value would hit 3 billion dollars in the near future.
