Iran Eager to Develop Commercial Ties with Singapore, Indonesia

TEHRAN, June 6 (ICANA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that Iran is willing to enhance commercial ties with Singapore and Indonesia to higher levels.

Talking to reporters before leaving for Singapore, he said that one of the objectives of his trip to Singapore and Indonesia is to review the ways for developing economic cooperation with the two states.

Larijani said that Iran-Singapore annual commercial exchanges stood at two billion dollars, adding that although the figure is satisfactory, the two sides have the potential the boost trade.

Regional developments and the ways for promoting trade will also be discussed during the meeting with the Singaporean officials, he said.

Describing developing ties with the East and West Asia as beneficial, the speaker said that review of the regional issues is on the agenda of the visit to Indonesia.

Larijani said that given Indonesia’s stance vis-à-vis the Israeli crimes in the occupied lands, talks with the country would be constructive.

Heading a political-parliamentary delegation, Larijani left for Singapore on the first leg of his South East Asian tour on Monday evening.

Larijani is going to Singapore City at the invitation of his Singaporean speaker Abdullah Tarmugi.

The speaker will also visit Indonesia after his two-day stay in Singapore.

Indonesia currently holds presidency of the Asia-Pacific section of Inter-Parliamentary Union. Iran is scheduled to undertake presidency of IPU's Asia-Pacific section next spring.
