Bahonar stressed the need to hold regular talks between the parliamentary officials of the two countries. The Chinese official also said Beijing attaches great importance to relations with Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iran will boost cultural ties with Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, according to what was discussed in a meeting on Monday in Tehran that took place between Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and the Chinese delegation.

The delegation accompanied the Secretaries of the Communist Party of China Xinjiang Committee Chair Zhang Chunxian during his visit to Iran.

China is a populous country with a great civilization that was connected to Iran through the Silk Road in ancient times, Hosseini mentioned during the meeting.

He pointed out that the proximity of Xinjiang with Afghanistan and Tajikistan is an important factor in boosting ties with this region since many of its inhabitants are Persian speakers and Muslims.

During the meeting, Zhang spoke highly of his encounter with the Iranian people during their sojourn in Iran during which he took note of the “Iranian culture”.

“Our interpreter has translated ‘Children of Heaven’ [directed by Majid Majidi] and we really enjoyed the movie. I think that Chinese people can establish a good connection with it,” he added.

At the end of the meeting, Hosseini suggested boosting cultural ties by dispatching groups of artists, holding book fairs and screening films in Iran and Xinjiang Province in the near future.
