He was welcomed by Singapore's Deputy Speaker of Parliament Matthias Yao in Singapore Changi International Airport on Tuesday morning, IRNA reported.

Larijani and Yao held a short meeting in the airport, during which they discussed matters of mutual interest, including bilateral ties.

A number of Iranian lawmakers as well as Hassan Qashqavi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Affairs, accompany Larijani in his visit.

Larijani is scheduled to meet a number of Singaporean officials, including Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi. The senior Iranian official will also attend a press conference.

At the end of his visit to Singapore, Larijani will fly to Jakarta to hold talks with Indonesian officials on bilateral ties as well as international developments.

In Jakarta, the top Iranian diplomat will also hold talks with senior Indonesian officials, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Minister for Foreign Affairs Nur Hassan Wirajuda.

Before departure to Singapore, Larijani expressed hope that Iran's relations with Singapore and Indonesia will improve following his trips to Singapore and Jakarta.

“Economic relations between Iran and Singapore stand at a relatively acceptable level as we have around $2 billion worth of trade with Singapore,” Larijani said on Monday before departing for the Southeast Asian country.

“During the visit, regional issues of potential significance for both sides will be discussed since Singapore is a member of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA),” he added.

The Iranian Majlis speaker pointed out that he would also discuss “significant regional issues” with Indonesian officials.

Larijani added that Indonesia could play an effective role to help solve regional problems, especially the crises in Yemen, Bahrain, and Libya.

Larijani will wrap up his visit and return home on June 11.
