Speaker Optimistic about Establishment of Democracy in Bahrain

"The conditions in Bahrain are different from those in Libya and Yemen, Bahrainis' movement is on a good track and the country's (Bahrain) people expect to get rid of the yoke of the ruling dictator" soon in future, Larijani said in a meeting with Singaporean Minister of Transport Lui Tuck Yew in Singapore on Tuesday.

The Iranian parliament speaker also pointed to the uprisings sweeping the Middle-East and North of Africa, and said these movements indicate the rise of a valuable tide of democracy in the Muslim world.

Larijani further renewed Iran's support for democratic moves in the region, and said, "Iran's support for the establishment of democracy in the Middle-East may run counter to the views and desires of a number of regional rulers, but the Islamic Republic believes that democratic ambitions are moving in a good direction."

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February, calling for an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty's over-40-year rule.

Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar - were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 13 to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.

So far, tens of people have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and about 1,000 others have been injured.

During the recent days, Bahrainis have repeatedly underlined that they will continue protests until the regime collapses and condemned Riyadh's involvement in the suppression of the revolution.
