Russia Raps Resolution against Syria

"As for examining the Syrian situation at the Security Council, we think the work should have as a goal to solve problems by political means," Lavrov said in Oslo following a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr.

Lavrov also warned against adopting biased resolutions by the UN that would take into account the interests of “one of the sides of internal conflicts,” AFP reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Russian foreign minister prohibited the Security Council and the international community from being bogged down in a situation similar to Libya.

"The Security Council and the international community have already gotten entangled in the Libyan situation."

The remarks come at a time that France, Britain and the United States are pressing for adopting a resolution that denounces what they call Syria's brutal crackdown on protesters.

Since the beginning of the unrest in Syria in mid-March, hundreds of people, including security forces, have been killed.

The shadowy opposition accuses security forces of being behind the killings. However, the government blames armed gangs for the deadly violence, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
