So far, 20 complaints have been filed at the European courts of law over the EU sanctions against Tehran for its civilian nuclear program, Jafarzadeh said on Thursday.

"In recent years, many attempts have been made [by Iran] to counter the sanctions by means of international legal actions," he said at a conference on the sanctions.

Referring to cases of human rights violations resulting from the EU restrictions on Iran, Jaafarzadeh said Tehran is also taking drastic measures to follow up the matter at both national and international levels, and expressed optimism that the efforts "will bear fruit in the near future."

On June 9, the UN Security Council imposed the US-engineered sanctions resolution 1929 against Iran over allegations that Tehran might be developing a military nuclear program.

Following the move, both the US and the EU also imposed unilateral sanctions against the energy and banking sectors of the Islamic Republic.

In late May, the European Union expanded sanctions against Iran over its peaceful nuclear program.

The EU foreign ministers decided to impose an asset freeze as well as travel bans on several additional Iranian officials and over 100 companies with alleged links to Iran's nuclear program.

Last month, the EU also imposed asset freezes and travel bans on 32 Iranian officials that it accused of human rights violations. Observers, however, described the measure as more of a negative publicity campaign against Iran, with little political or economic repercussions.
