Ahmadinejad, Zardari Confer on Iran-Pakistan Ties in Astana

TEHRAN, June 15 (ICANA) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday to explore ways to strengthen the two neighboring countries' ties and cooperation.

The two leaders also discussed the latest regional and international developments.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 10th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The 10th summit of the SCO started work in Kazakhstan's capital city of Astana on Wednesday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan and India attended the event as three observer states.

Afghanistan was also invited to the summit as a special guest.

President Ahmadinejad arrived in Astana on Tuesday.

The Iranian president is accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Chief of his Staff Esfandyar Rahim Mashayee and his senior Aide Mojtaba Hashemi Samareh.

SCO member governments include China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as four formally designated observer countries, namely Iran, India, Mongolia and Pakistan.
