Commander of Hormozgan's Anti-Drug Police Seyed Ahmad Khodayee told reporters that 500 kg of the seizure was made from a 4WD Toyota vehicle.

Khodayee further underlined police's determination to fight drug-trafficking in the province, adding that the confrontation with drug-traffickers had a growing trend last month due to provincial police's special anti-narcotic measures.

The Iranian police measures along eastern borders have forced drug-traffickers to resort to other routes, including the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, for smuggling their drug cargos which originate in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Iran, located at the crossroad of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan to Europe, has taken new security measures in its border provinces following several attacks by terrorists and drug traffickers at its Eastern and Western borders.

The anti-drug squads of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police have intensified their countrywide campaign against drug-trafficking through staging long-term systematic operations since last year.

According to the statistical figures released by the UN, Iran ranks first among the world countries in preventing entry of drugs and decreasing demand for narcotics.
