Larijani: Iran Seeks Afghan Stability

“Maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan together with the establishment of total peace and security in this neighboring country have always been [one] of the hopes and concerns of Iranian authorities and people,” Larijani said in a Monday meeting with the vice speaker of Afghanistan's parliament, Ahmad Behzad Nayeb.

The Iranian Majlis speaker pointed to the presence of foreign military forces in Afghanistan and said that not only the deployment of troops and killing of people have failed to uproot terrorism, rather they have even brought about a major hike in drug trade and a persistently climbing number of civilian casualties.

Larijani underscored the importance of self-reliance for the establishment of peace and noted that Afghanistan will be able to recover from its current issues once the foreign forces leave the war-ravaged country.

For his part, the Afghan authority praised Iran for its significant contribution to the reconstruction of Afghanistan and called for further bilateral cooperation.
