"No doubt, further deepening and promotion of cooperation and consultations between Tehran and Baghdad will serve the interests of both nations in all fields and help restore peace and security in the region," Ahmadinejad said during the phone talk.

Talabani, for his part, expressed pleasure in the growing relations between the two countries, and said, "Strengthening the friendly ties and joint cooperation between the two countries can result in valuable achievements for the two nations and the region."

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
