Larijani: Majlis Wants Friendly Ties with Azerbaijan

TEHRAN, June 25 (ICANA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that the parliament has a positive attitude towards developing brotherly ties with Azerbaijan Republic in all fields.

He made the remarks In a meeting with the Azeri ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov.

Larijani referred to the longstanding ties between the two nations and said that diplomatic shuttle and regular consultations between the two countries’ officials indicated deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

Larijani also underlined the significance of developing economic ties with Azerbaijan republic.

Akhundov said for his part that Larijani's imminent visit to Baku will be a significant step forward to strengthening ties between the two states.

The ambassador described Tehran-Baku ties as brotherly and very close.

Larijani is scheduled to pay a visit to the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku Thursday.

The 3-day visit will take place at the invitation of Larijani's Azeri counterpart Ogtay Asadov.

Late in May, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani in Baku expressed pleasure over accelerated development of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Aliyev referred to the strong political relations between the two countries, and said Iran and Azerbaijan's economic ties are also growing on the basis of the existing agreements.

Tehran and Baku have sought to expand their relations, specially in trade and economic fields, and signed several cooperation agreements in recent months.
