Larijani: West Turn Talks with Iran into 'Political Show'

"The U.S. and other Western countries have turned the talks into a political show, as they don’t understand their essence," Larijani said. "We welcome the negotiations between Iran and Western countries."

He said the negotiations should be conducted under conditions accepted by both parties, and the U.S. is using them as a tool to achieve its own goals.

In related news, Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that the thousands of nuclear weapons in the United States are a threat to global security.

Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh made the remarks on Friday in Berlin on the sidelines of the 59th Pugwash Conference on nuclear disarmament. He criticized the United States and certain Western countries for refusing to dismantle their nuclear arsenals, calling it a clear violation of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Soltanieh also denounced the Westerners for their double-standard policy and silence on the Israeli nuclear weapons program, saying that they have closed their eyes to Israel's illegal nuclear activities.

He also called for more international efforts to reach the goal of total nuclear disarmament, noting that this edition of the Pugwash Conference is focused on European contributions to nuclear disarmament.

Pugwash is an international organization that brings together scholars from around the world to help reduce the danger of armed conflict and find solutions to global security threats.

Since 1958, when Israel began building its Dimona plutonium- and uranium-processing facility in the Negev desert, it has secretly manufactured numerous nuclear warheads, making it the only player in the Middle East that possesses nuclear weapons.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has attested to the existence of the Israeli nuclear arsenal, which he said has between 200 and 300 warheads.
