MP Terms Jordan Cabinet Reshuffle a Band-Aid Measure

With antigovernment demonstrations growing across Jordan in recent weeks, King Abdullah II approved a cabinet shuffle on Saturday in the wake of scandals and resignations that have tainted the country’s prime minister and ignited calls for his resignation.

Kosari, who is the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee deputy chairman, described the move as “political”, saying, “It was not made to fulfill the true demands of the people in the country.”

“Whenever the people in this country step up pressure (on the government) to fulfill their legitimate demands, the Jordanian regime makes endeavors to help the situation settle down through changing a number of ministers,” he told ICANA.

The Jordanian people are seeking real changes, Kosari stated, adding, “Due to the subservience of the Jordanian regime to Western countries, particularly the United States and Britain as well as the Zionist regime, the country has not taken any measure to meet the true demands of the people.”

The Jordanian people are determined to rid themselves of the yoke of foreign countries and to decide their own destiny, he added.
