Iran, Turkmenistan Share Common Views against Crime

Speaking at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov in Ashgabat on Tuesday, Najjar described the ties between the two neighboring countries as "completely friendly and brotherly".

"Tehran and Ashgabat enjoy common views on security issues, strengthening of peace and stability in the region, and campaign against global terrorism, organized crimes and narcotics," Najjar stated.

"Tehran and Ashgabat will cooperate in various spheres and this cooperation definitely serves prosperity, welfare, peace and durable security in the region," the Iranian minister reiterated.

Berdimuhammadov, for his part, stressed Iran and Turkmenistan's significant role in exchanges in the Eurasia region, and urged the two sides to make an increasing use of their capacities when promoting their all-out ties.

Najjar, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Ashgabat on Tuesday morning to confer with Turkmen officials on the further development and deepening of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Among the Iranian officials in the Iranian delegation accompanying the interior minister are the governors of Golestan and North Khorassan provinces as well as a number of MPs.

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially those in the Central Asia.

Late in June, the Turkmen President in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Tehran as a reliable partner for Ashgabat, and urged further expansion of relations and cooperation between the two states.
