Egypt Parties Discuss New Legislature

The Monday meeting was held at the headquarters of El-Ghad Party, where representative of 26 parties conferred over creating a national unity government and parliamentary elections, a Press TV correspondent reported.

“Our meeting today is very important, because it brings together representatives from majority of political parties to talk about the parliamentary elections,” Chairman of El-Ghad Party Ayman Nour said.

The coalition said that it is working tirelessly in order to help ease the country into a democracy that will implement values the revolution, namely freedom, justice, and equal citizenship.

“We are working hard to introduce a law that is based on justice and democracy and doesn't give absolute power to individuals,” Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed el-Beltagy said.

The coalition also announced the formation of a committee that will work on creating a new unified law for the parliamentary elections.

“We meet today to discuss the election law. We guarantee a fair representation of all parties,” President of Al-Wafd Party El-Sayaid el-Badawi said.

All 26 parties that attended the party have agreed to the establishment of a civil state where the rule of law will prevail.

Observers say Egypt is in desperate need of a parliament that represents the entire nation with all its political tendencies and influences.

Massive protests across Egypt led to the ouster of the US-backed Egyptian ruler Hosni Mubarak in February, transferring the power to a military council after 30 years of despotic rule.
