TEHRAN, July 8 (ICANA) – Pakistan's parliamentary speaker will travel to India at the weekend to attend a conference of speakers and parliamentarians from the South Asian countries, officials said on Friday.

Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly or Lower House of the parliament will attend meeting of the speakers and parliamentarians in New Delhi from July 9-12.

MPs and speakers from the South Asian Association of Regional Countries (SAARC) member countries will attend the conference.


The SAARC groups Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The conference is being hosted by Meira Kumar, Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha while Indian Prime Minister will inaugurate the four-day conference on July 9.

A four-member parliamentary delegation will accompany Speaker National Assembly.

The participants of the conference would ponder on a variety of subjects which include consolidating democracy, strengthening trust between parliament and people, sustainable development in SAARC countries and other issues concerning masses and would formulate recommendations for consideration by their respective governments.

The Speaker National Assembly during her stay in New Delhi would separately meet with her Indian as well as other counterparts from SAARC countries and discuss augmentation of existing bilateral relations between their respective legislatures, her office said.

The Pakistani MPs will also avail this opportunity to interact and exchange views with their colleagues from the SAARC region.
