Ukraine Willing to Strengthen Economic Partnership with Iran

"Strengthening relations with Iran, especially in economic and energy fields, is a strategic policy of Ukraine," Tomenko said during the meeting in Tehran on Monday.

He further viewed his talks and consultations with Iran's political-parliamentary officials as highly fruitful and an important step in the consolidation of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Larijani, for his part, pointed to the developments in the region, and underlined the need for the two countries to have closer exchange of political views about different issues such as the recent conditions in the region, and campaign against terrorism and drug-trafficking.

Iran has been seeking to bolster ties with Eastern Europe, especially Ukraine, in all the different political, economic and cultural spheres in the last few years.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Ukraine's Ambassador to Iran Alexander Samaraski in November called for the development of all-out ties with Ukraine, reiterating that Tehran sees no restriction or impediment to the expansion of its relations with Kiev.
