Iran Opens Embassy in Slovenia

“Given Slovenia's level importance with the Islamic Republic, I inaugurate the Iranian embassy in this country today,” Ali Akbar Salehi was quoted by IRNA as saying on Monday.

The Iranian FM expressed hope that by opening an embassy in the Slovenian Republic, the level of cooperation among the two countries would increase.

“The Republic of Slovenia has made great achievements in the field of marine transport, electronics, refining, and industries; we can use their capabilities and Iran can supply Slovenia's energy [needs],” Salehi was quoted by IRNA as saying on Monday.

He pointed to Ljubljana's achievements since its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, and said, among the former Yugoslav countries, Slovenia was the most advanced country in scientific and industrial terms.

Salehi is heading a delegation on his day-long visit to Slovenia where he is expected to sign an agreement on the expansion of cultural ties between the two countries.

Following his visit to Slovenia, Salehi will head for Vienna on an official visit, which will take place at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart Michael Spindelegger.

During his stay in Vienna, the minister will hold talks with Spindelegger and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano.
