Iranian, Algerian FMs Confer on Bilateral Ties

TEHRAN, July 13 (ICANA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi met with his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci in a short stop in Algiers on his way to Nigeria in a bid to discuss the bilateral ties and exchange views over the regional and international issues.

The two sides conferred on the latest developments in North Africa and Medelci briefed Salehi about the status quo in the region.

The two sides also studied the growing trend of the two sides' ties in different fields, and explored ways to further deepen mutual cooperation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi who was in Austria to hold meetings with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials and his Austrian counterpart left Vienna for Abuja on Wednesday morning to attend the 14th ministerial meeting of the eight Muslim developing countries (D8).

The D8 was established in 1997 in Istanbul, Turkey to enhance cooperation in the economic sector through sharing of expertise in order to improve the position of member countries in the global economy.

The D8 nations, Nigeria, Iran, Egypt, Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia have an estimated population of nine hundred and thirty million people.
