Iran Attends ECO Summit on Commerce

TEHRAN, July 13 (ICANA) – The 4th ministerial summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on commerce and trade wrapped up on July 13 in Kabul, Afghanistan, with the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran’s (TPOI) director in attendance.

Iran Attends ECO Summit on Commerce

The two-day event was organized in order to decide a roadmap for multi-dimensional regional trade and action plan for establishment of Free Trade Area in the region according to ECO Vision 2015, the TOPI head, Hamid Safdel stated.

The Economic Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states.

In 1992, the organization was expanded to include seven new members, namely: the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
