In meeting with a visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation on Tuesday, Sleiman described the unity of the Lebanese nation as the key to resistance against Israeli threats, and called on Tehran to assist the establishment of solidarity among the Lebanese nation.

The Lebanese president also hailed the Iranian delegation's visit to the country and welcomed the move as a major step in the expansion of Tehran-Beirut relations.

He also praised Iran's legislative body for including all the minorities in the Islamic Republic and for preventing them from being marginalized.

Sleiman also pointed to the 33-day war launched by Israel against Lebanon in 2006 and said, "The biggest lesson for them (Israelis) was that they should return the occupied territories to their real owners."

"Israel has today reached a point where it plans its defense strategy based on how it could protect itself from the missiles that rain on the regime," he noticed.

Heading the Iranian delegation to Lebanon, Deputy Speaker of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Mohammad-Reza Bahonar, congratulated Lebanese officials on the formation of the country's new government and highlighted Iran's support for Lebanon and the Lebanese resistance against Israel.

He also referred to Hezbollah's role in Lebanon's victory in the 2006 conflict, and said, the victory altered the region's equations, and turned Lebanon and the resistance movement of Hezbollah into a superior power.

“The Zionist regime [of Israel] once enjoyed a full military superiority in the region and thought it could threaten the capitals of Arab countries anytime it wished, but Lebanon and the resistance disturbed this balance, and today, anywhere in the occupied territories in within Lebanon's range,” Bahonar stated.

The Iranian official also invited Michel Sleiman to visit Iran.
