Seizure of Gaza-Bound Aid Ship 'Resembles Piracy'

Mehman-Parast said on Wednesday evening that the antagonist seizure of world nations' contributions to besieged Gaza Palestinians is piracy and an exact example for state sponsored terrorism

"The international bodies and organizations, particularly the human rights organs are requested to do all they can to end the inhumane siege of Gaza, while condemning this anti-human rights move," he added.

On Tuesday, the Israeli navy attacked and seized a French-flagged ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists heading for the blockaded Gaza Strip and forced it to go to Ashdod.

An Israeli military spokesman said the passengers were transferred from Dignité al-Karama to one of the warships sent to intercept it in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The 17-passenger ship planned to sail to Gaza as part of a flotilla carrying activists and aid, but other vessels were prevented from sailing after docking in Greece. Activists accused the Greek government of intervening on Israel's side.

The ruling Palestinian party Hamas condemned the seizure, with spokesman Ismail Rudwan describing it as "piracy, a war crime and a violation of the principles of human rights".
