MP: Conditions Ripe for Tehran, Cairo to Resume Ties

Speaking to ICANA Sunday, the lawmaker referred to the upcoming visits of three Egyptian delegations to Iran and said the delegations will include economic, cultural, artistic figures as well as elites.

"The two nations enjoy strong determination to resume interactions in various international, political, cultural and economic fields," the MP noted.

The MP said Egypt is an influential country in the Arab world and in Africa and therefore they deserve reestablishment of relations with the Iranian nation.

He also said that Washington was concerned about Cairo's shift of policy towards the Zionist regime. "Washington and Riyadh would do anything to prevent the Egyptian foreign policy from being influenced by its popular revolution. This is under conditions that one of the slogan chanted by the Egyptians was to close the Israeli embassy in Cairo and reopen the Iranian embassy instead," said the lawmaker.

He added that the West, subservient Arab rulers and the Zionist regime have delayed resumption of diplomatic relations between Iran and Egypt by throwing obstacles in the way of the revolutionary government in Cairo. But the wish of the nations will eventually prevail, he noted.

Three Egyptian delegations are scheduled to pay separate visits to Iran in the future, director of Iran’s Interests Section in Cairo, Mojtaba Amani, told the Mehr News Agency on Friday.

On June 1, a 45-member Egyptian delegation attended the Fifth International Imam Khomeini and Foreign Policy Conference, which was held at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) in Tehran.
