MPs Endorse Single-Urgency of Motion on Trial of US Officials

The approval came after rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali read out a report on the subject.

The MPs shouted Allaho Akbar (God is Great) and Down with America after the approval.

The motion which includes an introduction and 6 articles and was approved by 196 Iranian lawmakers requires the Islamic Republic government to file lawsuits against these 26 US officials at international bodies.

"Given its unilateral approach, the United States has committed extensive crimes against humanity. Although the United States' criminal policies are generally all condemned, a number of senior US officials have played a direct role in these crimes" who must be dealt with directly, the introduction of the motion says.

The motion refers to the crimes committed by the 26 US officials in Iraq and Afghanistan, including frequent and severe violations of human rights, support for terrorist groups and direct role in drug trafficking activities.

The motion also calls on the foreign ministry to lodge complaints against them with the international bodies.

The Iranian parliament had earlier announced plans to annul the country's agreements with all the state and private firms and companies which are affiliated or somehow related to the 26 US officials sanctioned by Iran.
