Larijani Invites Cuban Counterpart to Visit Iran

In a meeting with president of the Cuban National Assembly Ricardo Alarcon in Havana on Monday, member of the Majlis Presiding Board Hossein Sobhani Nia praised Cuba's resistance against the US imperialism over the past 50 years under the leadership of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro.

Cuba is the symbol of resistance in Latin America while Iran is the symbol of resistance in Asia, Sobhani Nia said.

He extended an invitation from Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to Alarcon to attend the 5th international conference in support of the Palestinian Intifada (uprising) against the Israeli regime, slated to be held in the Iranian capital of Tehran on October 1-2.

The Iranian legislator expressed hope that participants at the conference will support rightful and revolutionary stance of the Palestinian people.

Alarcon, for his part, vowed to strongly defend the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people.

He also stressed the importance of expanding all-out relations with Iran, particularly in parliamentary fields.

In related news, Larijani officially invited Chairman of the Uruguayan House of Representative Luis Alberto Lacalle to attend the conference in support of the Intifada.

The invitation was delivered to Lacalle by member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Karami-Raad in the Uruguayan capital city of Montevideo.

During the meeting, the two sides also conferred on other issues of mutual interest.

Karami-Raad stressed both sides' determination to expand cooperation in different fields, and called for further contacts and consultations to promote parliamentary cooperation between the two sides in different bilateral, regional and international fields.
