TEHRAN, August 8 (ICANA) – Syrian People's Assembly on Sunday resumed its activities and voiced readiness to hold the extraordinary emergency session.

The People's Assembly reelected Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash as Speaker and Dr. Fahmi Hassan as deputy Speaker, Hassan al-Saqqa, Khaled al-Abboud as secretaries and Dr. Mahdi Kheir Bek and Abdullah al-Atrash as observers, Asha Egyptian reported.

The session was adjourned until Tuesday October 4th, 2011.

In a press conference after the Sunday meeting of the parliament, Dr. al-Abrash stressed the Assembly's readiness to hold any extraordinary session at any time if necessary.

Dr. al-Abrash said as per the Constitution, extraordinary period will be observed in case parliamentary elections would not be held within three months after the parliament ends its work.

The Assembly will continue its activities until elections are held for the next parliament.

Syrian President Bashar Assad had recently talked about the possibility of delaying parliamentary elections and election law reforms.

However, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem has said that parliamentary elections will be held by 2011 yearend.
