Karami: This Year's Qods Day Celebrates Fall of Dictators

Stating that the Islamic awakening in the region and fall of four dictators had given a different color to the International Qods Day this year, the lawmaker said on Tuesday that the Islamic awakening was spreading in the region in favor of the Palestinian Resistance.

Speaking to ICANA, Karami noted that hatred for the Zionist regime was escalating in all countries throughout the world, adding that concurrent with trial of Egypt's former dictator Hosni Mubarak the people of Egypt gathered in front of the Zionist regime's embassy in Cairo in support of Palestine.

Millions of people are expected to take part in the International Qods Day (Friday, August 26) rallies in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and all oppressed nations around the world.

The International Qods Day was initiated by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of the holy Qods to Muslims.

International Qods Day is an annual event opposing Israel's occupation of Beit ul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, especially in Iran.

Imam Khomeini declared the liberation of Qods a religious duty to all Muslims. He stated: "I invite Muslims all over the globe to consecrate the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as Quds Day and to proclaim the international solidarity of Muslims in support of the legitimate rights of the Muslim people of Palestine."
