Rajaei: Qods Day Symbol of Fight against Global Arrogance

The International Qods Day was initiated by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of the holy Qods to Muslims.

Stressing that Imam Khomeini was aware that Zionism and global arrogance were seeking to create division in the Islamic world and deprive Muslims of peace, security, and friendship to reap the benefit. He said the arrogant powers, led by the US wanted to keep the regional states dependent in matters of defense.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, Rajaei said, the arrogant powers came to the conclusion that under the new geopolitical situation in the region, the newly founded Islamic Republic of Iran should not turn into the superior power in the region. For the same reason, he said, they designed the Iranophobia project.

To thwart the Iranophobia scenario of the West, Imam Khomeini designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Qods Day to draw the attention of the world people towards the crimes of the Zionist regime.

The MP added that today Islamism is one of the main demands of the people in the Middle East so much so that the Zionists see themselves besieged by revolutionary Muslims and look for a way out.

Rajaei said the wave of Islamic awakening was now spreading to Europe, adding that the people of England, for instance are seeking restoration of their rights by holding large protest rallies.

He also said the true face of the false advocates of human rights and democracy had been exposed during the recent unrests in UK.

Millions of people are expected to take part in the International Qods Day (Friday, August 26) rallies in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and all oppressed nations around the world.

International Qods Day is an annual event opposing Israel's occupation of Beit ul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, especially in Iran.

Imam Khomeini declared the liberation of Qods a religious duty to all Muslims. He stated: "I invite Muslims all over the globe to consecrate the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as Quds Day and to proclaim the international solidarity of Muslims in support of the legitimate rights of the Muslim people of Palestine."
