Iran, Turkey Can Turn into a Powerful Bloc against Zionist Regime

Speaking to ICANA on Sunday, member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Majlis, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said that over the past decade Ankara has been trying hard to play a key and pivotal role in the Islamic World and the Middle East, particularly the Persian Gulf.

The lawmaker was commenting on a May 31, 2010 Israeli military attack on a six-ship aid flotilla while it was in international waters en route to the besieged Gaza Strip.

A UN fact finding UN team on the incident found that the Zionist regime had used “excessive” force in its raid on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla, it also described Israel’s now four-year-old blockade on the Gaza Strip as legal.

Naqavi added: "Since the beginning of anti-dictatorial uprisings of the Muslim nations this year Turkey has been working to attain a sublime and prominent place among Muslim states because Ankara is aware that the people's movements would reach Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE. With the diminishing influence of these countries in the Middle East, the Ankara government is trying to enhance its influence in the region."

The top legislator described Turkey as a politically and economically stable and noted: "The current government in Turkey is mulling over reviving the Ottoman empire in the Islamic World so that other nations would count on Turkey as a regional power exercising influence on the political and economic developments in the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe."

Naqavi went on to say: "The reason the Zionist regime has come under direct attack of the Turkish leaders is that all the Muslim nations very much hate this regime and Ankara aims to increase its bargaining power in international equations."

The lawmaker said Iran was in the forefront of the campaign against Zionism, adding: "While maintaining this position, Iran can consolidate its diplomatic activities and form a new and powerful bloc with Ankara against the usurper regime of Israel."

Observers believe the recent UN report on Tel Aviv’s deadly attack on the Gaza-bound flotilla was prepared under pressure from the United States and Israel.

They say by issuing such reports the UN will lose the trust of the world public opinion.

The Turkish-Israeli relations witnessed further deterioration this month after Israel refused to apologize for its attack on Turkish ship, Marmara, and the resulting death of nine Turkish activists; dozens of activists were wounded.

Ankara expelled the Israeli ambassador and froze all military and diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv.

Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdugan, stated Thursday that Ankara intends to protect and support all Turkish ships, loaded with humanitarian aid, bound to the besieged Gaza Strip.

“Turkey will be serious involving surveillance of international waters. It also took some steps to prevent Israel from the unilateral use of natural resources in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea,” the Turkish PM said in an interview with Qatar-based, Aljazeera.

Erdogan said in a conference with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean-Claude Junker that Turkish-Israeli ties would not be normal again unless Tel Aviv issues an official statement apologizing for its attack, and unless it pays compensation to the families of the victims who were killed aboard Marmara flotilla that was attacked by the Israeli Navy last year, the Anatolia News Agency reported.

He also demanded Israel to lift blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
