Iran Sanctions to Be Discussed at APA Economic Committee

Speaking to ICANA on Sunday, Mohammad Ali Delavar referred to the holding of the Permanent Committee on Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development of APA in Moscow, saying the committee meets once in a while in various countries to discuss various economic issues of the world.

The committee meeting is to kick off on September 20-21, he added.

More than 50 Asian member states of the committee are to discuss the global financial crisis and the unbalanced condition of the US dollar and devise a mechanism to sustain minimum damage from this situation, he said.

Delavar, who is scheduled to attend the committee meeting in Moscow along with MP Hossein Amiri Khamakani, said the Iranian delegation wants the meeting to review international sanctions imposed on Iran as well as economic aspects of developments in the region and North African, change in governments of Egypt and Libya in particular.

The APA was born out of Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) in November, 2006, in Tehran. The establishment of the AAPP goes back to 1999 when a group of Asian parliamentarians decided to join forces toward promoting peace and human rights in Asia.

In 2006, while broadening areas of cooperation, and emphasizing their desire for taking serious steps toward integration, member parliaments set in a process that would eventually lead us to an Asian common legislative mechanism. Unlike AAPP, members of the APA Plenary must be elected by members of member parliaments. This gives the APA an unprecedented and unique status in Asia.
